The
City of Lock Haven is located in
the south central section of Clinton County in the north central portion
of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The 2.6-mile City occupies a
triangular plain just west of the confluence of the Susquehanna River
and Bald Eagle Creek boundaries. The City has direct access to
Interstate 80 via U. S. Route 220 and State Routes 64 & 120, providing
the City with access to the remainder of the State’s major urban
centers.

POPULATION/MEDIAN INCOME
The City of Lock Haven is the most
populous municipality in
Clinton County with a total population of 9.149 (2000 census), which
accounts for nearly 25 percent of the County’s population. The City’s
median family income in 2000 was $38,177, which is 78% of the State’s
MFI of $49,184.
HOUSING
The 2000 Census reported 3,565 housing
units in the City of Lock Haven. Of the City’s total occupied housing
units 3,306, 39% were owner occupied while 61% were renter-occupied.
EMPLOYMENT
The largest employees in Lock Haven today
are: Lock Haven University (465 faculty and staff) and Lock Haven
Hospital (443 employees).
The City of Lock Haven accounts for over
one-half of all commercial activity in Clinton County. Approximately 200
retail/service businesses are located in the City’s central business
district.
EDUCATION
Keystone Central School District
The largest geographical school district
in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, KCSD encompasses most of Clinton
County and serves a student population of approximately 5,400 and is
comprised of 9 elementary schools and three secondary schools.
Lock Haven University
Located on 135 acres, Lock Haven
University is one of 14 schools in the Pennsylvania State System of
Higher Education and is fully accredited by the Middle States
Association of Colleges and Schools, the National Council for
Accreditation of Teacher Education, the Council on Social Work Education
and the National Athletic Trainers Association. Home to approximately
4,500 on and off campus students, LHU offers most of the amenities of
home in addition to the latest in technologies and facilities.
West
Branch Technology Center
West Branch Technology Center offers a
variety of technology-based courses specifically designed to meet the
needs of classroom teachers in elementary, secondary and adult
education. These courses have been approved for in-service credit by the
Pennsylvania Department of Education. The Center offers services to
business and industry including: customized computer-based training for
employees on site or in their labs, hardware and software support and
troubleshooting, design work and cost projections for new systems and
upgrades and development of customized software applications.
SERVICES
Lock
Haven Hospital and four hospitals in the region, combined with a
substantial medical community of physicians, surgeons and dentists,
provide medical care. There are over 30 religious institutions in
Clinton County. Two newspapers (The
Express and the
Record) and
three commercial radio stations (WBPZ/WSNU, WJSA and Bear Country) serve
the area.
